Through Bravo’s Music Education Partnership Program (MEPP), we not only provide subsidized or discounted tickets to public school students and other under-served communities, but also provide special educational workshops and programs to groups of young people in the area. On April 14th 2011, in conjunction with our presentation of the Bill T. Jones Dance Company, we were proud to work with the Ballet Conservatory of Asheville to present special contemporary dance Master Classes which we offered to area youth organizations including the YMI Cultural Center, LightShare and the Hillcrest Community Enrichment Center. Taught by professional dancer/choreographer ShaLeigh Comerford, a former student of Bill T. Jones, the classes were designed to introduce the techniques and precepts of modern dance, and specifically to examine the choreographic style of Bill T. Jones. There was such enthusiasm in the classes that they ran late – no one wanted to stop! We have received ecstatic feedback from group organizers, and we hope to offer similar opportunities in the future - and to expand these programs moving forward. Here are several pictures from Ms. Comerford’s classes. Thanks again to ShaLeigh, and to all our participants!
